Frequently Asked Questions – Volunteering

 

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul relies on more than 2,900 volunteers every year. Our various projects offer fun and unique ways for individuals and groups of all kinds to contribute their time, talents and resources. Thank you for your desire to aid us in our mission to Change Lives, Serve Communities by providing financial, material, educational and spiritual support to people in need; regardless of background or faith and collaborates with other organizations to empower people to achieve self-sufficiency.

A: Our administrative offices are open M-F from 8:30am – 5:30pm.  Saturday opportunities are available in our Donation Warehouse and Thrift Store (located on Peachtree Rd. in Chamblee GA) or for our Education Programs.

A: About 2,900 volunteers assist us each year, donating more than 2,750 hours per month.

A: Our volunteer projects can accommodate groups of various sizes and can provide team-building opportunities. We recommend you schedule at least three weeks in advance, but no less than 1 week (if available).

A: We would love for your family, school or youth group to join us. Volunteering is a great way to teach children about service and spend some quality time with them. All children and youth under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Please see the individual project descriptions for age minimums.

A: One adult chaperone is needed for every:

  • Five children ages 12-14
  • Ten children ages 15-17
     

A: Please contact our volunteer coordinator as soon as possible (preferably at least a week in advance), so we can be sure to invite other volunteers to take your place.

 

A: Please contact our volunteer coordinator as soon as possible to see if there is room available. We may already be full for that shift, and some or all of you may need to reschedule.

A: Our projects are designed for specific time periods, so we ask that volunteers commit to the entire shift. For that reason, it’s also very important that you arrive on time.

A: We work on a situation by situation basis. Please call our volunteer coordinators to inquire about your needs.

A: Mandatory service hours are tracked differently than our regular projects. Appointments must be made and an application completed before being awarded court-related community service.
