As need continues to overwhelm our Food Pantries, we are grateful for this opportunity to join together to raise money to fight hunger.  Although we are still hoping for improved economic conditions, Georgia is experiencing far greater need than other areas of the US. We are having a difficult time keeping up with the increasing demand on our Food Pantries.

When you participate, the more money raised, the more money there is to help fight hunger in your community.

ALL money raised will be used for food programs related to the Society’s hunger relief programs/clients, such as purchase of food for the pantry, grocery certificates for clients, or operational expenses of a food pantry.

Our goal is to raise $40,000!

Will you respond to our challenge?
You can form a team of family members, work colleagues, friends and parishioners to walk with others united to fight hunger. 

On a beautiful spring-like day last year, a total of more than $500,000 was raised through HWR to fight hunger in Georgia. Last year with your help, SVdP raised more than $31,000.
 
To participate as a team, please select a Team Coordinator to act as a leader for your group.  Please register on line at www.HWR2012.org. If you were in the system last year, you can use the same log-in name and password.

You will need to:
• Find your Conference-look for the drop down
• Name your team
• Set a fundraising Goal-SVdP’s Goal is $40,000
• Invite others to join your team using your email addresses

Each SVdP walker or runner will receive a SVdP Team T-shirt. All walkers who raise at least $25 will receive the official HWR 2012 T-shirt! Runners who pay the $25 registration fee will receive a special HWR 2012 shirt designed just for runners.

I am not a walker/runner so what can I do to help?
You can be a Virtual Walker which is someone who solicits donations and donates to the event even though they may not be able to participate directly.

Earlier, the radio show, the Rude Awakening with Christopher Rude, Perry Laurentino and Leo Mazzone, broadcast live from the ballroom at East Lake Golf Club. After interviews on the radio, Vince Dooley and Fred Kalil posed for photos with each foursome.  The golfers, with their caddies, walked out to their tees and play began.

The participants then gathered later at the club house, where they enjoyed refreshments and bid on the Silent Auction items. Many purchased or won donated items such as a vacation package to the Atlantis Hotel in the Bahamas, Golf play and stay packages at Reynolds Plantation, autographed Masters Flags, and UGA football tickets, among other things.

 The On-Course competition winners were: Closest to Hole #2­­– Paul O’Neil, Closest to Hole #6–Tom Doss, Closest to Hole #11 – Russ Spencer, and Closest to the Hole #18 – Chris Reynolds.

The Tournament winners were:  First Place–Bill Garrity, Paul Luibell and Tom Coffey.  Second Place–Bill Garrett, Mark Christopher, Chris Reynolds and Joe Gorman.  Third Place – Jeff Hubbard,            Jeanene O’Brien, Bud Jumper and Dan Carlson.

St. Vincent de Paul Atlanta is grateful to all who played and volunteered and especially to our sponsors;

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, along with 24 other non-profit organizations from throughout the Metro Atlanta area, has agreed to decorate its own Christmas tree the weekend before Thanksgiving, November 19-21, which will be displayed in the atrium and lobby of the hotel for six weeks.  Local companies have agreed to sponsor the cost of these trees and each organization will have envelopes at their tree for individuals or businesses to “vote” as their favorite tree or charity in the form of a monetary.

On Thursday, December 16, 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., the hotel will host a 25th Anniversary Gala Reception to showcase the trees, serve food and holiday spirits.  Local choirs, musicians, and performing arts organizations will provide entertainment.  The monetary donations made throughout the month will be totaled and the funds raised per tree will be given to each organization.  Also, a grand prize of $250 from the Embassy Suites will be awarded to the organization with the highest monetary donation votes.  There will even be a “legendary” guest who will award the donations to each charity.

“I can’t think of a more wonderful way to celebrate the holiday season than providing a way to support these organizations at this special time of year. It’s also a great opportunity to invite the public to see the many improvements that have been made to the hotel,” says Dale Gustafson, Director of Sales and Marketing.
