Programs and Services
Direct Aid
The Society considers any legitimate request for financial aid including help with rent and mortgage payments, utilities, medical bills, food, transportation and more. Requests for assistance are handled by local Conferences and the assistance is directed toward one-time requests, to help the client get through a crisis situation.
Education Programs
The Society develops and conducts classes to help clients lead more fulfilling, productive lives. Some Conferences host classes locally and the Family Enrichment Center collaborates with Conferences to provide educational opportunities. Life Skills workshops such as budgeting, finance, job search, nutrition and other pertinent issues that impact families and individuals in crisis are offered . Computer classes and Literacy classes (ESL) are also available.
Family Enrichment Center
The Conference Support Center is home to this comprehensive opportunity for families and individuals. Included within this Center are Educational opportunities, the Client-Choice Food Pantry, Benefits Screening and Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs.
Food Pantries
Local Conferences throughout North Georgia sponsor food pantries for clients in need. After the initial home visit the Conference home visitors assess the need and determine the appropriate assistance response. Conferences either deliver food to the individual or invite the individual to come to the pantry. In certain circumstances, the Conference may collaborate with the Client Choice Pantry at the CSC in Chamblee to fulfill or increase the grocery assistance.
Sweet Dreams Bed Program
New and refurbished beds are provided to clients who don’t have them.
Temporary Housing
Our temporary housing facilities provide nurturing, home-like environments where women and children can re-establish stability in their lives.
Thrift Stores
Our stores provide an economical alternative to typical mall and retail stores for cost-conscious shoppers. If you enjoy bargain shopping, you should visit a St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store today! All of our stores honor vouchers from clients who need clothing, household items, and furniture.
Uplift
Some of the local Conferences offer a program that is a more long-term commitment to qualified clients. The goal is to provide the support, whether, including financial aid, emotional support, childcare, training and other assistance, in order to give the adult(s) the opportunity to achieve the educational or technical training needed to move beyond their current situation. Through the work of mentors and other Conference support programs, the client is able to attain a level of professional proficiency and achievement that opens the door to improved life skills and better employment.
Wheel Appeal
Donated cars and trucks generate funds for our Direct Aid program. We evaluate every vehicle we receive and determine the best use of them. We do not send our vehicles to charity auctions, so we maximize the outcome for both the Society and the donor. Select cars are given to clients who need transportation to work.
