Pharmacy Program

Maintaining Quality of Life

St. Vincent de Paul Society knows that some people are having to choose between buying food and getting their medications. The Pharmacy Program is a resource to caseworkers to help clients with chronic conditions stay on their medication. The SVdP Pharmacy Program is designed to help those in need obtain prescription medications from a trusted source. SVdP and Rx Outreach have developed a program to help people get medications at no cost to the individual.

The clients served by our conferences are eligible for participation in the program.SVdP Vincentians will work with the people they serve to identify those who need medications and are eligible to use the SVdP prescription program. A Story of Hope

Just one of the many stories of those helped is

Members of the Good Shepherd Conference visited with James and found out that his son, who suffers from depression, had been off his medication for several months. St. Vincent de Paul was able to see that a 180-day supply of the prescribed medications was provided and assured James that we could help with refills.

Frequently Asked Questions

There are many options for getting a prescription filled, why should a person use Rx Outreach?

Rx Outreach is administered by Express Scripts Specialty Distribution Services,a subsidiary of  Express Scripts, Inc.  It is a medication program that offers more than 380 generic medication strengths from one reliable source.  Rx Outreach serves the medication needs of people across the U. S.

Medications are dispensed in 90-day or 180-day supplies.  A doctor can write a prescription to include refills for an entire year (3 refills when ordering 90-day supplies and 1 refill when ordering 180-day supplies). Per pharmacy law, prescriptions are valid for up to one year.

What is needed to get medications from Rx Outreach?

Through the SVDP Prescription Program, all we need is a completed SVDP voucher form.   Voucher forms can only be obtained from a SVDP Vincentian. By using a voucher form, no payment or proof of eligibility is required from the person who needs the medications.

Are generic drugs as good as brand-name drugs?

A generic drug is a copy of a brand-name drug which must have the same quality, safety, and strength.  Generic drugs are approved by the FDA and must meet the same FDA standards as a brand-name drug.

A generic drug contains the same active ingredients in the same dosage form and strength as the brand-name drug. Since they have the same active ingredients, generic drugs can be used by patients of all ages to achieve the same medical effects provided by brand-name drugs.

Drug manufacturers spend large sums of money on research, development, marketing and advertising of brand-name drugs. These costs are built into the price you pay for the brand-name drug.  Manufacturers of generic medications have much lower costs, and they pass the savings on to you.

Ask your doctor if there is an appropriate generic drug for you.

Why should I order prescriptions by mail through the Rx Outreach program?

Mail order provides many advantages.  It allows for substantial savings since drugs can be purchased in large quantities by the mail order pharmacy.  Mail order pharmacies also provide high quality service and dispensing accuracy due to the level of automation used in dispensing a prescription. It is convenient to get drugs delivered directly to you at the address you choose.

How long does it take to get my medications through the mail?

We ship medications within 10 to 14 days after we receive a completed voucher form.

Mail order programs are intended for drugs that are taken over a long period of time.  If a person needs an antibiotic for an ear infection, he/she should get that drug from a retail pharmacy so the drug can be taken as soon as possible.  Rx Outreach offers medications for diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, and high cholesterol.  These types of medication can be obtained through mail order at a big cost savings.

What if my medication gets lost?

All Rx Outreach prescriptions are mailed via U. S. mail in plain packaging.

If a prescription does not reach you in the initial shipment, you can call 1-800-769-3880 between the hours of 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday to request a replacement shipment.
