Transitional Job Training

In partnership with the  Atlanta Center for Self-Sufficiency and others, SVdP is piloting a transitional employment training program which provides on-the-job educational training in a warehouse environment. through certified training programs.

The ACSS has experienced a 70 percent success rate in its program graduates.  In reviewing the causes of the 30 percent who did not complete the program, the data verified the most common cause as clients who lack the most basic of skills which in turn negates the ability to be considered for employment. Direct remedial mentoring is needed for these individuals and a job placement that has greater comprehensive mentoring and supervision is necessary to properly move the candidate to job readiness.

The Society and ACSS have defined this special program and SVdP Warehouse placement to address the challenges faced by these individuals.  By mentoring very basic employment skills and providing transitional job opportunities to the candidates of the ACSS program, SVdP Atlanta will be able to offer the ACSS candidates a new dynamic that provides real and documentable on-the-job training opportunities in a supportive environment that encourages learning and growth.   The goal is to offer support and guidance that will help them attain a level of success, independence and stability.

The long-term plan is to create sustainable, scalable opportunities for training by expanding the collaborative venture to include multiple warehouse and retail positions in SVdP’s Chamblee warehouse and our 10 regional thrift stores and four Family Support Centers.

Initially, candidates will receive on-the-job and educational training in a warehouse environment. Two positions are identified, Donated Goods Warehouse Associate and Perishable Foods Warehouse Associate.  Participants will be mentored, guided, supported, and paid as they participate in a 60-90 day employment experience.

Some planned areas of educational focus for candidates are:

  • personal finance education,
  • support the curriculum,
  • mentoring personnel, technology,
  • and provide necessary transportation, equipment and training supplies needed for the candidates during the 90-day job placement program
