Car Donation Success Story
Another SVdP Transformation
Recently the St. Louise de Marillac Conference in Dallas, Georgia had the pleasure of providing a car to a client. The client, a student from Africa studying at the Paulding campus of Chattahoochee Technical Institute, currently works at a day care center. She needed the car to become independent of friends who have kindly provided her transportation to school and work and everywhere else she needed to go. Sofia shared the expense of obtaining the vehicle by paying for her driver’s license, her insurance and her vehicle registration. With the added freedom a car will provide, Sofia sees a bright future ahead of her.
St. Vincent de Paul accepts donations of cars, trucks, boats…anything that moves. Our best resource to solicit donations is our Conferences in the local parishes. When a car is donated at a conference, the paperwork is handled by the SVdP Transportation Program Manager at the Conference Support Center. She will assist in the process of matching the car to a client or in selling the car so that funds can be used for programs.
The procedures and forms are available at http://www.svdpatl.org/what-we-do/transportation-assistance-programs/, call 678-892-6168, or e-mail: cars@svdpatl.org
It’s just a car; it’s transportation; it’s TRANSFORMATION!
Allison had been out of work due to the birth of her third child. She had worked in a day care center and when she was able to return to work her position had been filled. Her husband had been out of work since June. The St. Brigid conference in Cumming was able to help the family with rent and food. Allison was called back to work at the day care center, but had no transportation. St. Vincent de Paul was able to get her a donated well running vehicle.
St. Vincent de Paul Society is about removing barriers to independence and success. Allison and her family are doing just fine, thanks to the generosity of someone who donated a 10-year-old car.
